The Dungeon Siege Movie
Uwe Boll is a movie director. Lots of people claim to hate him and his movies (which include House of the Dead and Alone in the Dark). It got to the point that he actually boxed some of his most vocal critics. It wasn’t pretty.
Boll’s raison d’être is optioning games and turning them into movies. His most recent is In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale, which is based on the Dungeon Siege games that GPG developed. Last night, the movie opened and GPG rented a theater and we all went and watched it.
Jason Statham as a simple farmer who knows advanced fighting techniques. Burt Reynolds as the king. Matthew Lillard (who I actually like a lot as an actor) as the king’s scheming nephew. Ray Liotta as an evil magician. Add in a bunch of dudes in rubber suits and women who swing on vines, and you have cinematic gold. Or at least cinematic copper.
It was a lot of fun, and seeing the credit for Gas Powered Games and Chris Taylor scroll across the big screen was super cool.

I recently wrapped up a one-shot for Axel Alonso over at Marvel. He just sent over some breakdowns, and it’s looking pretty awesome. I can’t wait to see the finished product.
No commentsParis Review Interviews
I love reading interviews with writers, but interviews where the interviewer actually knows something about the process of writing are a true joy to read. The Paris Review has interviewed more writers than probably any other publication, and last year they started re-releasing their interviews. The second collection just came out, and for anyone with an interest in writing (or even reading, for that matter), it’s a must-read.
My favorite bit so far? Eudora Welty nerding out over a short letter than William Faulkner sent her. (Although García Márquez saying that he hates being famous and that he wishes his books had come out after he was dead is a close second.)
